bases for development of architecture

Generally, Architecture is called the Mother of all Arts. Let’s discuss and understand this concept further. Architecture stands for ‘Goodness, Truth and Beauty’ and these are its three main principles.

Why is Architecture important? Have we ever thought about it….

We generally look at a thing considering its practical usefulness first which indeed is called the ‘Technique art’, then may look at it in a speculatively thoughtful way, which brings in the happiness derived from ‘truth’ and such art would be defined as ‘Phonetic art’ and last but not the least is the ‘Aesthetic art’ it involves the beauty of the object.

Hence, the above three ways of looking at an object gives the inspiration to the artist, here being an Architect to coin the entire space into a built form.

The study of history reveals the bases for development of Architecture and it emphasizes on the following:

Life- Since the inception of the human world, man is trying to seek protection of life against weather, beasts/ animals. Architecture played an important role and had its origin in the early efforts of mankind. The earliest forms of Architecture were rock-cut caves, dolmen. Hence, Architecture of any place is the clear picture of human life. The spirit of life makes the building alive and has power to inspire.

Love- For sake of love many splendid buildings have been constructed, like the Taj Mahal in Agra was built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz.

Hope- When we talk about God its our belief and hope that we have in the deity above. Hence, because of this hope religious buildings got their identity as Temples, Churches, Mosque, Gurudwaras, etc. These shrines have been built all over the world ‘hoping’ to secure a good life by offering prayers.

Death- When we think about death it really disturbs us and we become upset or sad. But from the ancient times humans have integrated peace with death, which resulted in construction of tombs. Also to cherish the memory of great people, many monumental buildings have been constructed after their ‘death’, like the Raj Ghat was built in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.

Hence, we can see that Architecture has actually produced/ built homes for the living, shrines for the deity, tombs for the dead…..

Architecture is an imagination or passion to design and built buildings, create spaces for human beings to live their lives in a civilized manner…

The encyclopaedia meaning would be

Architecture, the art and technique of designing andbuilding, as distinguished from the skills associated withconstruction. The practice of architecture is employed to fulfil both practical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian andaestheticends. Although these two ends may be distinguished, they cannot be separated, and the relative weight given to each can vary widely. Because every society—whether…
